Asterix and the Kingdom of Nubia: out November 25, plus the best Asterix movies to rewatch

The new animated Asterix movie hits French theaters at the end of November. Before you go, here are the movies in the saga to rewatch as a family, sorted by age.

By Toutatis, the Gauls are back! Astérix et le royaume de Nubie, a new animated movie directed by Alexandre Heboyan, opens in French theaters on November 25, 2026. A perfect outing as the holidays approach, to see as a family.

Why we're looking forward to it

The animated Asterix movies have enjoyed a real revival with 3D, starting with Asterix: The Mansions of the Gods in 2014. They've kept Goscinny and Uderzo's humor, with puns for the parents and action for the kids. This new chapter takes our heroes far from their village, toward Nubia.

The Asterix movies to rewatch before you go

For the youngest

  • The Twelve Tasks of Asterix (1976): the absolute classic. "The place that sends you mad" and its permit A-38 are part of French culture.
  • Asterix: The Mansions of the Gods (2014): the first 3D animated adaptation, funny and fast-paced.
  • Asterix: The Secret of the Magic Potion (2018): an original story, very well done, great from age 6.

For the whole family

  • Asterix & Obelix: Mission Cleopatra (2002): Alain Chabat's live-action version, still a cult favorite, and already set in Egypt. The perfect warm-up before Nubia.

Our tip

For a movie night before the release, pair Mission Cleopatra (for the parents) with The Secret of the Magic Potion (for the kids). Then book your tickets: Asterix movies are among the biggest end-of-year hits in France.
