How to stop spending 30 minutes choosing a movie

You scroll, you hesitate, you watch trailers… and it's already 10 pm. Here's why choosing has become so hard, and a simple method to fix it.

You know the scene. It's 9 pm. You open Netflix, then Prime Video, then Disney+. You watch three trailers, read a few reviews, hesitate. At 9:35 pm, you still haven't started anything. Sometimes you even end up rewatching an episode of a show you know by heart.

You're not alone, and it's not a lack of willpower.

The paradox of choice

Psychologists have shown it for a long time: the more options we have, the harder it is to choose, and the less satisfied we are with the final choice. Faced with thousands of titles, our brain is afraid of "missing something better". The result: we hesitate, we get tired, and we choose by default.

Platforms don't always help: their recommendations mostly push their own new releases, not necessarily what you'd enjoy most.

The 4-step method

1. Set the time you have

First of all, decide how much time you have. 90 minutes? 2 hours? That immediately rules out half the options.

2. Limit yourself to three candidates

Never more. Beyond three, comparing becomes a headache.

3. Give yourself 5 minutes

Set a timer. When it rings, you start the movie that tempts you most at that moment. No going back.

4. Trust a selection

This is the most effective: hand the sorting over to a reliable source. A movie-buff friend, a critic whose taste you share… or a selection designed for exactly that.

Why we created Ta Dose

This exact problem is what gave birth to Ta Dose. Not every movie in the world: only the best, chosen every week, with the trailer, the running time and a direct link to the right platform. You choose your running time, we suggest. You press play.
