Black Doves season 2: release date, cast and season 1 recap

Black Doves returns to Netflix on November 5, 2026 with 6 episodes. Release date, new cast and a season 1 recap so you can jump back in.

Keira Knightley's spy thriller is back. Black Doves season 2 lands on Netflix on Thursday, November 5, 2026, with every episode released the same day. Here's what you need before you dive in.

Release date and format

  • Date: November 5, 2026, only on Netflix (it's an original).
  • Episodes: 6, about an hour each, all dropping at once.
  • Time to finish: around 6 hours, so two good evenings.

The date is no accident: it's the eve of Bonfire Night in the UK, for a season that keeps the wintry London mood of the first.

Season 1 recap (spoiler-light)

Helen Webb (Keira Knightley) lives a double life. Officially, she's the low-key wife of a rising British minister. In reality, she has spent years passing his secrets to a covert organisation, the Black Doves, run by the formidable Reed (Sarah Lancashire). When her lover is murdered, the organisation sends Sam (Ben Whishaw), a weary hitman, to protect her.

Season 1 pulled more than 10 million views in four days and strong reviews.

What's next for Helen in season 2

Her husband is now close to the top job. A power struggle shakes the Black Doves, Reed is targeted, and Helen and Sam must decide who to trust. New cast includes Ambika Mod (One Day) as a sharp-tongued agent, Neve Campbell, Sam Riley and Babou Ceesay.

Do you need to see season 1?

Yes. Season 2 picks up right where season 1 ends. Short on time? The last two episodes of season 1 are enough to get back into it.

Shows to watch if you like Black Doves

  • Slow Horses: failed but brilliant spies, plenty of dark humour.
  • The Day of the Jackal: a gripping cat-and-mouse with Eddie Redmayne.
