How to organise your series watchlist (and actually watch it)

Is your watchlist overflowing? A simple method to sort it, pick the next show and never forget a title again, with or without an app.

A show a colleague recommended, a trailer you saw on social media, an article you skimmed… and three months later you can't remember the title. Or worse: a list of 80 shows you never open. Here's a simple method to organise your series watchlist and actually get watching.

Step 1: one single place

Phone notes, screenshots, lists on three different platforms… The first rule is to keep everything in one place. A scattered list is a dead list.

Step 2: sort by runtime, not by mood

We tend to sort by genre. But what decides what you start on a given night is the time you have. Sort your list into three columns:

CategoryExamples
One eveningAdolescence, a film
One weekendHis & Hers, Black Doves, East of Eden
The long haulThe Americans, Breaking Bad, a K-drama

To help: our 30-minute-episode shows and our finished series with no cliffhanger.

Step 3: only one long series at a time

The classic trap: starting five shows and finishing none. Keep one long series on the go and alternate with short formats. You'll finish more shows and enjoy them more.

Step 4: delete without guilt

If a show has been on your list for six months and no longer tempts you, delete it. Rewatch its trailer: if it doesn't hook you in 30 seconds, it's out.

Step 5: track releases, not the whole catalog

No need to follow five platforms' news. Once a month is enough: check our November series and December series guides and only add what speaks to you.

FAQ

How do I stop forgetting the shows I want to watch? Keep them all in one place, for example in your Ta Dose favorites.

How many shows should I watch at once? One long one and one or two short ones, at most.

Should I finish a show I don't like? No. If the first two episodes don't hook you, move on.
