Surprise on M6: The Most Expensive TV Series in History is Coming to Free Television

The blockbuster fantasy series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is coming to free television on M6, giving a wider audience a chance to discover this TV giant.

This is one of the major television events of recent years. While the third season of the famous fantasy saga is set to make its debut on Prime Video in November, French viewers are getting a major alternative to catch up. M6 has officially announced that it will broadcast the very first season of this gigantic adaptation for free, along with streaming availability on its M6+ platform.

A Production with Mind-Boggling Figures

Initially launched in 2022 on Amazon's streaming service, this series created by J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay takes place three thousand years before the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. It notably features a young Galadriel, played by actress Morfydd Clark, who is convinced that Sauron is preparing his return to plunge Middle-earth back into darkness.

What truly sets this project apart is its staggering budget. Between Amazon's acquisition of the rights estimated at $250 million and roughly $465 million dedicated solely to producing the first eight-episode season, the show holds the absolute record as the most expensive television series in history. It was a massive financial gamble that paid off with impressive global viewership numbers right from its premiere.

A Return to the Roots for Tolkien Fans

To bring this monumental universe to life, the production filmed entirely in New Zealand, reconnecting with the legendary landscapes immortalized by Peter Jackson's film trilogy. Music lovers will also notice familiar talents: the score was composed by Bear McCreary, while the iconic main theme was crafted by Howard Shore, the Oscar-winning composer of the original movies.

Previously exclusive to subscription streaming service members, this blockbuster is now reaching a brand new audience on free television. Starting November 14 at 9:10 PM, viewers can dive into the origins of the rings of power without spending a dime.
